Through the generosity of our donors and key partners, we invest in world-class research, innovative clinical care and deliver patient and entertainment services for sick kids and their families in a healing environment. 

An opportunity has arisen to ensure our children, and future generations, receive the world-class treatment, care and support they deserve. We are seeking a Head of Development to join our dedicated and passionate team.

What will you be doing?

This is a newly created role, reporting to the Chief Marketing and Fundraising Officer, and will be responsible for the strategy, support and delivery of the Foundation’s major gift activities and relationship-building programs.

You will work closely with key stakeholders including clinicians, research and management teams, and manage the relationship with current and prospective major donors, trusts and foundations. You will also be intimately involved in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donations.

The role will focus on:

  • Developing strategic links with individuals, institutions and other bodies dedicated to supporting children’s medical research;
  • Leading the Development team in identifying prospective donors and grant-making organisations, provide relationship management to charitable trusts and foundations, and craft compelling cases for support and grant proposals;
  • Supporting, mentoring and leading our small team by personal example.

Who are you?

To be successful in this role, you will be a driven and self-motivated professional with:

  • Proven success in asking for and closing major gifts, and building long-term relationships with major individual donors, foundations and corporations;
  • Extensive management experience - including the ability to set objectives and manage the performance of your team, and foster an environment of professional growth;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and influencing presentation skills;
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in major-gifts giving and solicitation and fundraising campaigns;
  • Demonstrated experience writing and presenting proposals to secure opportunities;
  • The ability to manage multiple and demanding tasks, prioritising as necessary;
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective and collaborative relationships with a wide set of constituencies, and a demonstrated track record of solid accomplishment in major gift fundraising.

This role will require an individual with the ability to undertake ad hoc domestic travel, and flexibility in working outside of hours from time to time.
